Annemarie spent years as a professional singer by night and editor by day. These days her ‘day job’ is editing non-fiction.

Having just undergone a massive cancer journey during the last two years, Annemarie is still unable to sing due to vocal cord damage. Stage 4 cancer is no small matter. ‘When you’re staring at a Stage 4 diagnosis,’ explains Annemarie, ‘you don’t mess around with which modalities to try. You go with ALL the modalities! I did Western, Eastern and everything in between. Unfortunately, the aggressive chemotherapy damaged a lot of other things, so I’ve had 12 operations in 22 months. I’m really really tired.’

Annemarie’s employers have been amazing. She works from home most of the time to accommodate the fatigue and all the medical appointments, which can be anything from three to ten in a week.

The creative juices, initially strangled with frustration, flowed like a tidal wave when Annemarie dug up an old manuscript early this year and attacked it with all the bottled-up need for a voice.

That project is a romantic comedy called Chasing Change. The skeleton of this novel was written 15 years ago.

Annemarie lives in Darwin in the tropical Top End of Australia, with her partner, Darryl. Nobody can decide which of the two is the cheekiest. Their belief system lies along the lines of ‘you can have it all’, and ‘you must lick your plate’. They are very silly 😊
